The global outsourcing industry is gathering positive momentum in 2008, say the latest TPI Index figures.

According to research by the sourcing data and advisory firm, the first quarter of 2008 saw a year-over-year increase of nearly 20 per cent in annualised contract value compared with 2007, reports Consultant News.

Peter Allen, partner and managing director of TPI, said that to determine the extent of the sector's strength going into the new financial year, the study had included a view of the previous six months, according to the news provider.

Mr Allen continued: "All and all, the picture of the prior six months was very robust and indicates momentum in the broader market that we haven't seen in years."

He went on to say that he anticipated growth in double figures in terms of annualised revenue measures of active contracts for the remainder of the year.

The news follows the results of a study by research firm Forrester, published in IT Pro, which indicated that smaller IT outsourcing vendors were more flexible than their larger counterparts.
