Why go Green?

More and more people and companies are now trying to become environmentally friendly and the UK also has agreements in place to reduce its carbon output.

Trying to protect the environment is a topic that has become much more widespread over the last few years.  By trying to be a bit more aware of the impact that we have through business can help greatly in reducing your carbon footprint.

Reducing the amount of carbon produced can also help lower costs, which in the current financial climate is welcomed by most people.

What can I do to be Greener?

From a business point of view there are lots of things that can be done in order to reduce carbon.  We at ihotdesk employ a hotdesk strategy whereby in our main office we do not have any pcs at desks, we now use thin client technology to connect to our Citrix server.  A thin client on average uses 85% less energy than a normal desktop pc and it generally requires less support.

We have also reduced the number of physical servers by recently implementing VMWare so therefore reducing 8 servers to 1 server.  A single server with a single 750W power supply will produce approximately 8.5 Tonnes of Co2 per annum.

There are various ways of reducing the amount of carbon we produce (and everything in one way or another produces carbon!):

How Green am I?

By using our carbon calculator you can easily work out the yearly output of your company. [Carbon calculator]

We at ihotdesk produce approximately 40 Tonnes of Co2 per annum.  The UK as a whole produced approximately 575 Million Tonnes of Co2 last year and approximately half of this was from business.
