Datacentre management spend tipped to growth

Firms are expected to increase their spending on datacentre management in the next years, which may show the need for IT outsourcing.
Research from IT industry analyst IDC claimed that large European organisations expect to spend around ten per cent more on staff to run their datacentre operations, which is nine times higher than the predicted growth in overall IT spending.
The report also identified the factors which are driving the increased budget, such as the fact that one-quarter of businesses still rely on manual server and storage management, which is more expensive than deploying IT tools.
In addition, just 30 per cent of firms regard reducing the operational cost of the datacentre as a priority, while only 25 per cent are concerned about software license spending.
Chris Ingle, associate vice president of consulting at IDC, said: "Virtualisation and automation have brought ways to reduce cost and free up resources. However, there is still considerable potential to reduce cost by improving management."
Recently, Jay Kramer, vice president of worldwide marketing for Sepaton, said that deduplication and virtual tape libraries are good ways for datacentres to store large quantities of information while meeting regulatory requirements.
