IT outsourcing deals in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) have skyrocketed by €1 billion (£700 million) in the second quarter of 2007.

A new study by Forrester Research revealed that the UK accounted for 36 per cent of all EMEA deals during this period, worth nearly €2 billion (£1.4 billion).

The research focussed on IT outsourcing "mega-deals" worth over €10 million (£6.98 million), from 25 IT service providers active during this period.

Results found that 84 deals in total were closed in EMEA during the second quarter worth over €5.4 (£3.8 million), which is 19 more deals than in the same period last year.

IT infrastructure deals accounted for 45 per cent of all outsourcing contracts and help desk and support services also increased substantially, making up at least 44 per cent of the contracts.

Surprise findings came from the Nordic countries where Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark closed 14 deals together, reflecting the "high outsourcing maturity" of this region.

As part of the study, Forrester interviewed high profile vendor and user companies such as BT Global Services, Fujitsu Services, IBM Global Services and Orange Business Services.
