Top companies reveal IT outsourcing gripes

New research has revealed that many FTSE 350 companies have changed their IT outsourcing provider.

Data from law outfit Addleshaw Goddard has found that 60 per cent of companies had changed or renegotiated their IT outsourcing contract while a third had opted to return the running of their IT infrastructures to internal employees, reports Computer Weekly.

A poor quality of service was the most common reason for switching IT outsourcing supplier, with failing to stick to cost estimates another major gripe.

"The research has uncovered a number of hidden outsourcing truths," said Margaret Harvey, the head of technology and outsourcing at Addleshaw Goddard.

"Companies often embark on outsourcing with rose-tinted spectacles - they don't adequately anticipate what could happen when outsourcing goes wrong."

Hidden costs, a lack of control and deterioration in quality during the course of a contract were other major causes of dissatisfaction.
