Dell acquires AppAssure for its data storage division
US computer giant Dell has agreed to purchase cloud infrastructure and physical date protection firm AppAssure.

It’s the first take over Dell has engaged in since it developed its own stand alone software division and fits in perfectly with its storage strategy.

Dell’s storage portfolio has been three years in the making and it believes that AppAssure’s back up solutions add the necessary enhancements it wishes to market to its growing base of customers.

Using its Fluid Data architecture, Dell offers a full portfolio of Storage Area Network and Network Attached Storages solutions and will now complement these offerings with AppAssures extensive range of security, data compression, back up and restore systems.

“Dell’s acquisition of AppAssure is a strategic industry move given its relentless focus on providing innovative solutions to protect customers’ applications and data in cloud, virtual and physical environments,” said Najaf Husain, president and CEO, AppAssure.

“Combining Dell’s global brand, scale, reach and existing storage portfolio with our innovative technology provides customers with world-class data protection and recovery capabilities in their virtual, physical and cloud environments.”

“AppAssure’s unique architecture delivers innovative cloud-enabled backup and replication solutions that meet the challenges of protecting the explosive growth of data in both virtual and physical environments,” added Brad Anderson, president, Enterprise Solutions Group, Dell.

He added that at practice level the link up enables Dell customers to move date effortlessly across all existing platforms using an Equal Logic array in a remote office setting.

The purchase is also an important one for Dell in commercial sense as AppAssure registed a mammoth 194 per cent revenue growth last year. All the firms 230 employees will be retained on their existing contracts and conditions.

Dell’s shares fell this week due to weak forecasts for its future sales potential.
