Breaking news from ihotdesk, Small Business IT Support for London content notes Posted by Steven Gaskill Anti-virus company Symantec has released public beta versions of its Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus 2012 software packages. The programs can be downloaded from the company's website for free and offer performance and protection improvements on their predecessors. According to Symantec, a key feature that could appeal to firms looking for SME IT support is a new scanner that checks the "safety and stability" of an application before it is launched by the user. The betas also feature Insight 3.0, the latest version of Norton's reputation-based security technology, which could help businesses avoid websites carrying malware and other malicious scripts. Meanwhile, Sonar 4.0 behavioural protection regularly checks running applications to ensure they do not install unauthorised files on a machine. Jens Meggers, vice-president of engineering, said: "For the Norton 2012 release, our aim is to continue to raise the bar for both protection and performance."
