Posted by Steven Gaskill Voice over internet protocol is set to continue the strong growth performance it enjoyed in 2009. According to analyst Frost & Sullivan, despite the global economic downturn, the industry experienced unprecedented growth last year; lifting its user base by a massive 40.1 per cent and increasing revenues by 22.3 per cent. Moreover, the firm expects the trend to continue apace and believes the market value of the VoIP industry in the US alone will rise from $717.3 million in 2009 to $3.9 billion by 2016. Frost & Sullivan program director Elka Popova, co-author of the organisiation's North American VoIP Access and SIP Trunking Services Markets report, said: "Service providers are investing in enhancing their VoIP access/trunking services in terms of survivability, redundancy, and trunk pooling to be able to offer greater value." Writing for EZine Artilces, James Waldrop recently claimed that VoIP allows companies to cut the cost of their phone bills dramatically. ![]() |
