Public IT cloud services revenue set for rapid growth |

Posted by Steven Gaskill Global revenue from public IT cloud services will reach $55.5 billion (£36.8 billion) by 2014, according to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC). In 2009, revenue surpassed $16 billion but that figures will more than treble in the next three and a half years with a compound annual growth rate of 27.4 per cent. "For vendors, cloud computing is critically important for two key reasons - market growth and leadership disruption," said Frank Gens, senior vice president and chief analyst at IDC. "The cloud model will propel IT market growth and expansion for the next 20 years and will help the industry to more rapidly develop and distribute a new generation of killer apps, and to more successfully penetrate small and medium-sized businesses." He added that IT customers are "excited" about the advantages of cloud computing but do have some concerns about its maturity. A recent survey by 360IT of more than 500 tech workers showed cost savings and agility were seen as the key benefits of cloud computing.  |
