There are growing calls for a unified response to the threat of global warming and Mr Khisty, of HP Enterprise Services, warned those who fail to plan now may be left behind. He said those companies which lead the way in reducing their carbon footprint "will be set apart as corporate winners" and more likely to achieve growth. And IT is the "key driver" in achieving carbon reduction targets due to its effectiveness in tracking, managing and accounting for emissions. "Adopting a structured methodology to IT policies, practices and investment to reduce power consumption and carbon emissions is the first step towards setting up a clever, green-economy ready business," he told InformationWeek.in. At a recent roundtable discussion hosted by software provider FAST, numerous industry experts noted the cost-saving potential of so-called green IT. ![]() |
