Posted by Louise Tate Small business voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) users may wish to check they are not using their broadband connection "excessively". Recently, internet service provider Sky launched what it claims is the only truly "unlimited" broadband service. Most ISP deals claiming to be unlimited come with 'fair usage policies' that allow providers to limit, suspend or even terminate connections of those customers deemed to be using up too much bandwidth. According to research by uSwitch.com, 48 per cent of Britain's broadband users (eight million) do not know the limitations on their broadband deal, while 38 per cent (seven million) erroneously believe their connection is unlimited. The company's communications expert Matt Wheeler said: "The best advice for customers is to check their Fair Usage Policy and if in doubt, ask their provider to clarify the acceptable usage. "For those choosing a new service, it's more important than ever to pick one that can cope with the demands being placed on it both now and in the future." Businesses switching over to VoIP to save money on their phone bills may wish to ensure they are on a broadband plan that allows them enough usage for their needs. ![]() |
