Posted by Paul Sells The popularity of VoIP among business users will be the driving factor behind the widespread rollout of unified communications, an expert has claimed. Speaking at the UC Expo, Telappliant chief executive and founding director Tan Aksoy said that most companies start with voice communications when looking how to improve their telecoms systems and reduce costs, as every firm needs to be able to make calls. Mr Aksoy explained that this is leading to many businesses deploying VoIP across their departments and then looking at integrating other elements of unified communications. "We're expecting to see further convergence of communications technology - for instance, convergence of voice, mobile, video, to deliver businesses and customers with a single communications experience," he commented. Last month, John Bosnell, senior analyst at Point Topic, claimed that the number of VoIP subscriptions has grown to reach 110 million across the world, with the UK having the tenth highest number of users at 2.95 million people. ![]() |
