Posted by Steven Gaskill People need to take responsibility for protecting their computers from hackers, which may include finding new security solutions. Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online, pointed out that cybercriminals are well organised and are likely to capitalise on any opportunity which allows them to steal money. The expert added that many attacks are now being directed at the computers of individual users rather than banks, meaning people have to do more to protect their systems. "Protect your PC. Make sure you have anti-virus, spyware [detection], that you enable your updates on both your operating system and your applications," he commented. Mr Neate claimed that using unencrypted wireless networks and sending messages over social networking websites can prove risky, as it gives hackers the opportunity to steal data. Earlier this year, a report by Deloitte claimed that security breaches and cyber attacks are becoming increasingly common, with many victims not finding out until after the event. ![]() |
