Posted Louise Tate VoIP is likely to become an increasingly popular form of communications technology, experts have claimed. Ian Grayson, technology journalist at IT publication Hydrapinion, said that IP telephony has the potential to become the "standard for all voice calls". He explained that this will occur naturally, as networks become able to handle voice data as easily as other streams. Mr Grayson added that awareness of mobile VoIP is still relatively low, but is likely to grow as people seek to benefit from the low calling costs it can provide. In addition, George van Horn, senior analyst at IBISWorld, claimed that "there is huge potential for the widespread introduction of mobile VoIP". The expert also said that phone call quality and service options will be further improved by the rollout of high-definition VoIP in the coming years. Recent research from In-Stat predicted that there will be 288 million users of mobile VoIP by the end of 2013. ![]() |
