Posted by Jessie Richards Cloud computing is expected to be increasingly popular in the coming years, IT outsourcing users have been told. Frank Gens, chief analyst and senior vice president at research firm IDC, predicted that the innovation will become a more common feature of many firm's IT infrastructure. "Cloud computing adoption is growing at over six times the rate of traditional IT. In 2010, it is quickly moving from early adopters to mainstream organisations," he explained. Michael Friedenberg, president and chief executive of technology publishing firm IDG Enterprise, added that cloud computing is rapidly becoming one of the main strategic considerations of chief information officers, as companies realise it can save them money in the difficult economic climate. IDC and IDG Enterprise also revealed that they will host an event on June 13th to 15th in Santa Clara which will examine the future of the cloud computing industry. Recent research from email management company Mimecast told IT support users that 62 per cent of firms are considering using cloud-based solutions within the next year. ![]() |
