Posted by Steven Gaskill IT outsourcing users should be wary of a virus which is targeting external devices, according to new research. The latest BitDefender report showed that Trojan.AutorunInf.Gen has replaced Trojan.Clicker.CM as the most prevalent malware threat, accounting for 9.09 per cent of infections detected in February. Firms were warned that the virus targets removable devices such as flash drives, memory cards or external hard-disks, with BitDefender senior researcher Catalin Cosoi reminding them to ensure equipment is regularly scanned. "This safe practice should be used especially when these devices have been plugged into library computers, copy shops and other public locations that are known to be likely sources of infection," she continued. In addition, the firm revealed that Win32.Worm.Downadup.Gen, a form of malware which attacks a well-known Microsoft Windows vulnerability, was the second most common infection last month. Last month, Sunbelt Software warned IT outsourcing users that trojans remain the most common malware threat, especially variants such as Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT, Trojan-Spy.Win32.Zbot.gen and Trojan.HTML.FakeAlert.a. ![]() |
