Posted by Jessie Richards Closer management of wireless services can result in savings of between ten and 35 per cent for companies, IT outsourcing users have been told. Industry analyst Gartner pointed out that businesses are expected to adopt increasingly sophisticated mobile devices in the coming year, although many could neglect to draft adequate policies to deal with this. Phil Redman, research vice president at Gartner, explained that problems can occur when wireless telephony services are introduced on an ad-hoc basis, leading to more expense than is necessary. "A good method to ensure a strong policy is to incorporate a centralised team across IT that will be impacted by mobile and wireless decisions. This team can strategise for the strongest and widest policy," he commented. Mr Redman also pointed out that costs can be reduced if mobile devices, operating system platforms and form factors are standardised. Last week, Mobile Choice magazine editor Natasha Stokes claimed that there will be a rapid expansion in the smartphone security market, as uptake of the devices increases in the coming years. ![]() |
