Posted by Jessie Richards Green IT is becoming an increasingly important consideration for companies, IT support users have been told. Numara Software noted that firms are facing more pressure to deal with environmental concerns and said that implementing measures such as power management applications can be an effective way to do this. David Weiss, president and chief executive of the organisation, pointed out that the average computer is used for less than 20 per cent of the time it is left turned on, representing a loss of energy and money for the company. He added that these problems can be alleviated by installing power management software, as this will ensure that computers automatically power down when they have been left idle for too long. "Given the shifts in government energy policies, and increasing pressure from investors and shareholders, companies need to look for proven ways to adopt the green IT policies that will immediately impact their bottom line," Mr Weiss continued. Last year, a study by Datamonitor claimed that firms will increasingly use green IT solutions in order to benefit from the cost savings they can deliver. ![]() |
