People using more than one browser, expert says
Posted by Steven Gaskill

It will become more common for people to use more than one browser, it has been predicted, which could increase the need for IT support.

John Dunn, associate editor at Techworld, pointed out that the market dominance of Microsoft's Internet Explorer is started to falter and users are installing alternative browsers on their computers.

"In future, users will be happy to use more than one browser for a variety of reasons, something Microsoft now probably accepts," he explained.

The expert also pointed to the recent ruling by the European Commission, which aims to boost competition in the internet browser market.

Under the move, computer manufacturers have the option to turn off the automatically-installed Internet Explorer to allow users to choose other options.

Mr Dunn said the decision is not likely to concern Microsoft too greatly, as it will remain happy if it can defend Explorer's position as the most popular browser.
