Posted by Jessie Richards Business process management (BPM) will become an increasingly important technology for IT outsourcing users in the coming years, it has been claimed. Publishing its predictions for the future of BPM, IT industry analyst Gartner pointed out that modern business environments are more knowledge-based and unpredictable than ever before and need technology which can support this. "This quest is pushing BPM beyond its traditional focus on routine, predictable, sequential processes towards broader, cross-boundary processes that include more unstructured work," commented Gartner research vice president Janelle Hill. The organisation predicted that by 2013 the technology will be "imperative" for firms which are attempting to create process efficiencies in an increasingly turbulent business environment. Gartner also claimed that a move towards more "dynamic" forms of BPM will take place, as this will allow companies to respond better to unanticipated changes. Last year, research carried out by the group said that businesses are expecting to increase their spending on BPM throughout 2010. ![]() |
