Written by James Gardiner BT has announced that it is supplying Wi-Fi to 500,000 locations in the UK, which may benefit IT outsourcing users engaged in remote working. The telecommunications firm revealed that it is halfway towards achieving its goal of creating a Wi-Fi network with one million hotspots. Gavin Patterson, chief executive of BT Retail, commented: "We've reached a significant milestone in making Wi-Fi available in places where people want to get online." The company also noted that its hotspots are present in many areas frequented by business users, such as Hilton, Thistle and Ramada Jarvis hotels and Welcome Break and Roadchef Costa service stations. Other locations include Caffe Nero and Starbucks coffee stores and British Airways, Flybe and Skyteam airport lounges. Earlier this month, Martino Corbelli, marketing director at business connectivity provider Star, recommended that firms which allow their employees to work remotely should make IT security a priority. The expert advised companies to ensure that remote working equipment includes the IT security features found in devices in the office to avoid increase the risk of a breach. ![]() |
