Written by Louise Tate Firms should make use of cloud servers and smartphones to free them from their ties to the office, an expert has claimed. In comments which may show the need for IT services, ThinkGrid chief operating officer David Pratt said that the two technologies are increasingly being used to boost mobility. The expert pointed out that some employees do not need access to their computer at their workstation, just the files it contains. He added: "Having that accessibility from your smartphone means you're not tied to your operating system and you can just get to that information. It's about getting to the information and sharing information." Mr Pratt also noted that a key feature of cloud servers is their ability to promote collaboration by allowing files to be shared with those from outside the organisation. Recent research from IDC claimed that IT cloud services offerings, such as software-as-a-service and cloud storage, will slow in growth over the next year, although they will still outperform their traditional alternatives. ![]() |
