Online publicity means it is now easier for graduates to access a wide range of job opportunities than it has been in the past, according to an employment agency.

Jayne Rowley, publishing director for Graduate Prospects, said new technology means graduates can research companies before they apply, meaning they can better prepare for interviews.

"The proliferation of job boards and the availability of online application systems mean it's never been easier to see the full range of possibilities open to you," she added.

"It's not so much the numbers of opportunities that have grown, as much as the accessibility of them."

Ms Rowley went on to say that sophisticated online browsers enable jobseekers to tailor search job requirements and get exactly the information they need in their inboxes.

In 2006-07, 2,362,815 people enrolled in higher education, an increase of one per cent on the previous year, according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency.
