The most successful technology companies are those that adopt the most innovative approaches to IT services management, according to a new study.

Research carried out by technology consultancy Unysis Corporation surveyed 139 businesses and found that one quarter were successful because of their ability to manage IT resources to achieve key business objectives.

Bart De Maertelaere, vice-president of IT outsourcing strategy at Unisys Global Outsourcing and Infrastructure Services, said that executives now realise the benefits that can come from focussing on innovation in technology service management.

"To be leaders, IT executives must adopt proven best practices that enable truly collaborative innovation between their organization and the businesses they serve," he added.

Earlier this week, conservation group Carbon Footprint claimed that environmentally-friendly information technology practices can help businesses to reduce their carbon emissions.

John Buckley, managing director of the organisation, added that allowing employees to work from home can reduce the environmental impact of a business.
