Breaking news from ihotdesk, the home of IT outsourcing in London:
Swiss pharmaceuticals company Nycomed has signed a five-year IT outsourcing deal with British Telecommunications (BT) and Hewlett Packard (HP).

Swiss pharmaceuticals company Nycomed has signed a five-year IT outsourcing deal with British Telecommunications (BT) and Hewlett Packard (HP).

BT and HP together will take on international infrastructure requirements and HP alone will take over data centre management and workplace solutions, according to Outsourcing Pharma.com.

Agnetha Mattisson, senior vice president of corporate information systems and technology at Nycomed, said: "Nycomed is taking advantage of the BT HP Alliance's economies of scale, skilled staff and industrialisation of operations to consolidate and rationalise our infrastructure services and technology infrastructure."

She added that the pharmaceuticals firm hoped to grow as a business as a result of the move.

The news follows reports on livemint.com last week that telecoms firms are increasingly looking to outsource their IT departments so that they do not have to maintain in-house IT teams, allowing them to focus more effectively on their core business.
