Domain name choice is important for small businesses, according to an industry expert.

John De Groot, managing director of Startup Co, has said that businesses should consider what they are promoting and select a domain name accordingly.

"If the website is promoting the name of the business, then [it should choose] a name that is the same as the businesses' name If it is to promote a product, then consider a domain name that is the same as the product name," he continued.

Mr De Groot went on to say that keyword searches to find out which words consumers are using to search under can give ideas for the most effective names to choose. He also added that the domain name should be kept as short as possible.

The expert’s comments follows the announcement last week that a new suite of telephony services designed specifically for small and medium-sized business enterprises has been developed by Magnet Business.
