Google has launched a new hosted service for businesses.

The package, Google Message Discovery, will be available online and include spam and virus-blocking security controls and email filtering, according to PC Advisor.

Writing on the Google official blog, product marketing manager Bill Kee said that email archiving and security is foundational for helping businesses organise their information and making it more accessible and useful.

He continued: "The problem is, the backup systems many businesses use, such as tape drives or extra email servers, aren't sufficient. It's costly and complex to store huge amounts of data on email servers."

The news comes as businesses comment on recent Conservative proposals for creating a dedicated 'cybercrime unit', reports.

According to the news provider, a spokesman for the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said that more businesses are highlighting problems they face with complex electronic crimes.

He concluded that if a unit could focus on the issue, the BCC would support it.
