One of India's biggest IT outsourcing companies is looking to make moves into both Europe and the USA.

Wipro is looking to establish a "beachhead" in Europe through a major acquisition in the German research and development sector to add to three recent takeovers.

Chairman Azim Premji suggested that Wipro would be prepared to invest as much as $500 million in this deal. He said: "We are willing to pay a good price for it, and we have shortlisted some companies."

The company is also planning two new software development centres in the USA, in addition to the sites it already has at Troy, Michigan and Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr Premji said at a press conference: "We are going to open up at least two more centres in the US in the next two years, but we haven't announced them yet."

Wipro is reportedly particularly interested in securing future US public IT development outsourcing contracts.
