Breaking news from ihotdesk, the home of IT outsourcing in London:

A new deal between Redstone Managed Solutions and the University of Cambridge's computing service is estimated to double the unit's hosting suite capacity.

A new deal between Redstone Managed Solutions and the University of Cambridge's computing service is estimated to double the unit's hosting suite capacity.

The estimate was made by Tariq Saied, the firm's managing director, as it was announced that the firm would be building a second site to hold the hosting facilities.

Also commenting on the deal, Dr Jake Hornsby - the head of the network division for the service - states that Redstone's service will let it provide "world-class services in the event of a disaster recovery situation".

Dr Horsby also states that Redstone was brought in as the computing centre was "not in a position" to construct a second site itself.

Last month, the Redstone's Dublin operation announced that it had secured a four-year deal with Ireland's department of family and social affairs (DFSA) to supply services and equipment for a storage area network.

Commenting on the contract at the time, Declan Van Esbeck, managing director, Redstone Technology, said: "Our experience will ensure that the DSFA continue to have one of the most highly available server and storage systems in the country."
