The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) has explained the benefits of IT outsourcing ahead of the 2008 Outsourcing World Summit, taking place next week.

It claims that many companies choose to outsource parts of their operations in order to extend their working day, improve internal organisation and improve service by using experts in the field in question.

Jag Dalal, IAOP's managing director, said that IT has been the "most dominant" business activity in outsourcing.

He added: "There are several benefits from outsourcing…you can also take advantage of 'time dimension' (e.g. offshoring to a different time zone) or 'quality dimension'."

Quality dimension was described as "utilising a provider who is more adept at using six sigma tools than you are".

"Cost savings is but one of the benefits and in many cases it is 'cheaper' when you consider the total cost of service," explained Jag.

The IAOP has 40,000 corporate, professional, and associate members worldwide and is "leading the effort" to transform the world of business through outsourcing
