Pantaloon Retail has hired Wipro in a $50 million (£25 million) IT outsourcing deal this week.

Pantaloon Retail has hired Wipro in a $50 million (£25 million) IT outsourcing deal this week.

The Indian-based IT outsourcing firm will manage the retailer's IT infrastructure as part of the five-year-deal.

Managing director of Pantaloon, Retail Kishore Biyani, said: "Wipro's leadership in technology and service delivery innovation coupled with our innovative strategies will redefine the retail landscape in India.

"This partnership is valuable to all our stakeholders, including customers and employees."

Under the terms of the agreement, Wipro will manage all IT operations across all of the retailer's 1,000 Indian outlets as well as deliver a "comprehensive infrastructure management and application support service".

It will also manage security services for the firm as well as provide data centre hosting, operations and management services.

Pantaloon Retail plans to increase its "geographical footprint" by opening a further 2,500 outlets in India over the next five years.

Its outlets are made of up a series of brands including fashion retailor Pantaloon, Big Bazaar – a hypermarket chain – and Shoe Factory, Brand Factory, Blue Sky and Fashion Station.
