BAA has signed-up LogicaCMG in an IT outsourcing deal this week.

The five-year-deal will see LogicaCMG manage more than 400 of BAA's software applications, in a bid to improve its IT infrastructure.

Richard Rundle, BAA's IT director, said: "Through this contract, BAA will be able to achieve a more consistent approach to its IT services and applications across the business.

"It will allow us to manage our applications at an optimal cost, while maintaining strong service levels."

LogicaCMG will work with BAA to help it streamline the performance of the airport giant's end-to-end applications support, maintenance and development process.

As part of the contract, around 50 BAA staff will transfer to LogicaCMG.

LogicaCMG reports that it will deliver the outsourced support services through "a blended onshore-offshore model", with offshore work taking place at its Bangalore-based IT centre.

Earlier this week, computer giant HP announced that it has clinched an IT outsourcing deal worth (£337.5 million) with consumer goods manufacturer Unilever.
