IBM has released a new piece of data warehousing software that is designed to help businesses better-manage the growing volume of information they are having to store.

The computer giant's InfoSphere Warehouse with optimum data retention software will allow firms to manage enterprise data and deliver "optimal performance".

Arvind Krishna, vice president of IBM's database software department, said that those who were already using the software were "achieving a significant competitive advantage".

"This ever-growing volume of information has a life span – and eventually an end-point," he explained.

"Managing information across its life span through archiving and retention is the value InfoSphere Warehouse brings to our clients."

The InfoSphere Warehouse software is based on DB2 database software, which gives businesses a "unique set" of innovations to help them meet customer demand for analytics and information.

Earlier this week IBM announced that is has completed its acquisition of Cognos – a publicly-held business intelligence and corporate performance management software firm.

Through the acquisition, IBM will now become the leading provider of technology and performance management services.
