Microsoft has announced that its leading next generation game has sold over two million units worldwide. Gears of War was completed by Microsoft Game Studios along with Epic Games and was released to much fanfare from the games industry press. It is now the fastest selling next generation console game and has sold one million units in the US alone. Jeff Bell, corporate vice president of global marketing for the interactive entertainment business at Microsoft, stated: "Gears of War clearly has won the battle for the title of the must-have game of the year. "Its phenomenal success is one of many reasons why Xbox 360 is the ultimate place to get together with friends to play this holiday." The response by the critics to Gears of War has spearheaded the title's success and has won it a new audience, crucial to the ongoing development of the Xbox 360. "We've always held high hopes for Gears of War but we never expected such an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and gamers all over the world," said Michael Capps, president of Epic Games. © Adfero Ltd |
