Microsoft has discussed its voice recognition software capabilities at the SpeechTEK 2006 conference in New York.

Microsoft's Office Communications Server 2007 will break through boundaries previously in place for instant messaging, voice technology, audio conferencing and video conferencing.

Notably Microsoft's new operating system, Microsoft Vista, will be the first Windows desktop to come with built in voice recognition set up in eight languages. Thus allowing people to assign commands for applications using speech recognition technology.

Anoop Gupta, corporate vice president of the Unified Communications Group at Microsoft, stated: "The integration of this proven, reliable technology into Office Communications Server further demonstrates Microsofts commitment to providing our customers and partners with a truly unified communications solution and platform."

Windows Speech Recognition will be focused on Vista users who wish to limit the amount of time they use a keyboard or mouse yet want to maintain levels of productivity. The technology will allow emails, documents and forms on the web to be dictated in all major applications on Vista.

Microsoft Vista will be launched at the beginning of 2007 and will see a new Windows desktop available for IT support in London and throughout the UK.

Voice recognition could be a useful tool for some users in producing documents and emails in a way not commonly accessible.
