A deal has been struck between Google and MySpace.com for the rights to power a search engine on the community based networking site.

The deal is reported to be worth at least $900 million (£472 million) and will allow Google to provide the search option for MySpace which explores member listings. Keyword advertising will be attached to the searches.

MySpace was purchased by News Cooperation for $580 million (£304 million) and leads the field in terms of making friends and joining groups on the internet. Despite MySpace being extremely popular there are, however, reports that users are become disillusioned at the latest dealings.

MySpace was originally run on a fairly small scale operation but even when it expanded it kept its 'community' feel. However many critics now claim it is simply a way to make money.

Google also leads its field and believes the MySpace market to be crucial in the development of the internet.

MySpace currently adds around 250,000 profiles each day in an ever expanding user base.

Key to the success of MySpace is the ability to listen to music and to discover new bands and other artists. In addition instant messaging and notice boards make it easy to stay in touch with friends all over the globe.
