Utility company Scottish Water has signed IT outsourcing contracts worth a total of £120 million with BT, Fujitsu and Tata Consultancy Services. The firm hopes that the move will help it meet efficiency and service targets, offer employees more facilities and cut operating costs by over £8 million, reports Computer Weekly. According to the technology news provider, David Brown, general manager of IT at the water company, said that the deals provided the opportunity to "exploit the extensive development capabilities of some of the most innovative companies in the business." This news follows reports by IT Pro earlier this week that the IT outsourcing industry in Europe is set to benefit substantially from the uncertain economic climate brought about by the credit crunch. Laura Converso, research manager at IDC's European Services Research department said that IT outsourcing is set to become the "growth engine" of the European IT services market, making up 42 per cent of the sector by 2012. ![]() |
