New research has revealed that a large number of British retailers are outsourcing their IT infrastructures. A recent study by Martec International has found that of the top 100 retailers in the UK, eight have outsourced their entire IT facilities, with two major new contracts agreed in the past 12 months, reports ComputerWeekly. Supermarket store Somerfield is the most recent company to outsource its operations, having signed a seven-year, £33 million deal in December with Tata Consulting Services in December. The store hopes that the agreement will see its IT costs fall by a third as a result of the contract. DSG International, the owner of Dixons, Currys and PC World, outsourced its IT operations in January 2006 to Indian firm HCL, which will look after the company's systems development, infrastructure support and application delivery. © Adfero Ltd |
