Pharmaceutical companies are expected to be at the forefront of an increased reliance on business process and IT outsourcing during the coming year, claims new research. Of the 25 major pharmaceutical companies canvassed by consulting company Equaterra, 44 per cent of those that had already outsourced some IT components were planning to outsource further parts of their IT or business process infrastructure this year. None of the companies surveyed said they were planning to cut back on their IT spending in 2007, reports outsourcing-Pharma.com. "Currently the pharmaceutical industry sits third or fourth in its overall level of outsourcing in these areas, along with the financial services, retail and automotive industries," Stan Lepeak, the managing director of research at Equaterra, told the publication. "However, these results indicate that the pharmaceutical industry is planning to expand in the areas of IT and BP outsourcing this year more than any of the other industries we surveyed." Some 72 per cent of pharmaceutical companies have outsourced parts of their IT departments, the study found.  © Adfero Ltd |
