Vodafone is to cut costs by outsourcing its application development operations to EDS and IBM, according to latest reports. Associated operatives in the UK, Germany, Hungary and the Netherlands are set to work with EDS while Vodafone's firms in Spain, Czech Republic, Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Ireland, Greece and, if the board agrees, Italy will outsource to IBM, reports iTWire. It is believed that the UK mobile phone giant will save up to £168 million in the series of seven year deals as it aims to claw back a large proportion of the mobile phone market share. Steve Pusey, chief technology officer for Vodafone Group, explained that the decision was not solely based on the company's finances. "We are confident that our chosen outsourcing partners will not only deliver cost savings, but also an enhanced service," he told iTWire. The company also stated that the deals would bring "greater economies of scale" as well as "greater flexibility, leading to the faster roll out of more varied services to customers". © Adfero Ltd |
